Summertime Fun! Fast and Easy Sprouted Hamburger Buns!

I bake these all the time and use as sandwich bread, for garlic toast, and any other occasion or recipe that calls for bread. They're delicious and super fast and easy to whip up. Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (about 110 degrees)
  • 1/3 cup organic avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons organic sugar or honey
  • 1 large organic or pastured egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 1/2 cups organic sprouted red or white wheat flour

Directions:

  1. Add yeast and warm water to a large bowl and whisk. Add oil and sugar and whisk. Let stand 5 minutes.
  2. Whisk in the egg. Add the flour and salt and stir with a sturdy spatula until a dough begins to form. You can continue to incorporate the dough with the spatula or use your hands at this point to bring the dough together (flour you hands well). Lift the dough from the bowl and stretch and fold 4-5 times (no knead to knead this dough!).
  3. Place the dough on a flat, lightly floured surface and immediately cut it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Place the dough balls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, brush the top of buns with an egg wash (beat an egg and 2 tablespoons of water together). You can sprinkle with sprouted sesame or sunflower seeds or leave plain.
  5. Bake 9-12 minutes until golden brown.
